Panjim is, quite simply, Goa in a snippet. The city dates back to the Kadamba rule (1007-1050) and was named Nova Goa by the Portuguese in 1843 when they moved their capital from Old Goa.
Today, vestiges of its chequered history dot the city, from the beautifully conserved palace of Adil Shah of BIjapur and the majestic Church of the Immaculate Conception to the narrow bylanes of the Latin Quarter of Fontainhas that lie juxtaposed with modern conveniences, chic restaurants and thrilling entertainment.

What to See and Do

There’s so much to see and do in Panjim that no matter how often you visit, you’ll never be bored. If you enjoy history and culture, visit the 15th century Church of Immaculate Conception, the 200-year-old Jama Masjid, the ornate Maruti temple, and the heritage zone of Fontinhas with its well-preserved homes. Walk along the shaded lanes of Campal and Altinho for a glimpse of majestic residential homes. Shop for souvenirs in the heart of the city on 18 June Road and feed your soul with tasty delights from around the world at restaurants both lavish and down-to-earth. Spend your evenings at Miramar beach enjoying the kaleidoscopic colours of sunset. Then end your night at Jamun, one of the best sundowner pubs in Panjim, and take a chance on your luck at one of the many floating casinos in the Mandovi river including Deltin Royale, Casino Pride, Casino Carnival, Big Daddy, Deltin Jaqk and Deltin Caravela.
